What Exactly is a Wolf Peach?
Hello! And welcome to our garden, we’re glad you stopped by!
We’re a backyard nursery grown from new beginnings, perseverance, tenacity, and most of all, hope. We are a small, bootstrapped, LGBTQ and trans-owned business in the heart of the greater Philadelphia area. We hope with your support and our continued efforts we can grow this backyard business into something incredible! Growing this business also helps our community and our neighbors grow their own fresh-off-the-vine produce.
Our goal is to offer the world a functional and beautiful part of nature, even if it’s something as small as a tomato plant. All the plants we offer are grown from seed or propagated from plants we’ve grown on site. We opt for natural pest and disease control and do not use any harsh chemicals or pesticides in our garden. We utilize organic soil, compost, and operate as sustainably as possible.

You may be wondering where we got our name, and what exactly a wolf peach is. What is a Wolf Peach? It’s a Tomato! The tomato’s scientific name is Solanum lycopersicum ("lyco = wolf" and "persica = peach"). When the tomato was first introduced to Europe in the 1500’s, it was believed to be poisonous due to its relationship with the nightshade family of plants. It was also associated with witches and werewolves…and as people who love these things we felt it was fitting for us!
